Warning .........LOTS pictures of my finally finished sewing room.....well almost

I will consider it finished when I get my valances made and the bags of fabric (more scraps) put away that are hidden behind cabinet doors. A chance to post my room on Pink Chalk Studios prompted me to finish it.

Pink Chalk Studio

Sewing area designed by me.
A comfy couch to sit upon and stitch.
Glimpse of my trusty old sewing machine and my cutting mat
Rulers and quilt stencils

Cabinet for my magazines, ASE, Creative Needle, Sew Beautiful, my A-Z books, SAGA News, and other needlework booksInside of my magazine cabinet. I have all the holder's labeled now.

My grandmother's sewing machine, the linens on the sides are from her house also. I picked the round one up in an antique store. The basket on the left is full of scraps from my granddaughter's outfits that I have made her over the last 10+ years. I plan to make her a quilt one day. The other 2 baskets holds various quilting projects.

Piping, ribbon and rick rack drawer

Big 3 patterns for me, DD and DGD - the drawer with my heirloom patterns disappeared and I'm too put it back now..........

Drawer for my sewing thread

Piping, ribbon and rick rack drawer Notions drawer

Drawer for my embroidery thread and a few buttons

Drawer with more embroidery thread, silk ribbon and various other embroidery supplies

My tools drawer; floppy disks for my embroidery machine (I hope one day to upgrade), tape measures, pins, various tools for sewing.
This cabinet hold my "fashion fabrics". One of these days I will actually get around to sewing something for me out of it. This cabinet is over a closet and holds all my "vintage" patterns - 40+ years of sewing. Woah, did I say that??

This cabinet holds my embroidery supplies, interfacing, buttons, hem tape, etc.

This is not all of the cabinets and drawers on "my side". I'm sure you are tired of looking now.

These brown cabinets are on DH's side of the room. He reluctantly let me put my "stuff" on his side.

In front of the shelves below are baskets with smaller scraps in them.
Above are my quilting scraps that I have collected over the years. You won't find designer fabrics of today in here, just 30+ years for sewing scraps collected
The cabinet next to it houses more crochet yarn, cross stich yardage, kits and books. Also odds and ends of fabric.
This is the top half of the cabinet below; in it I have crochet and quilting books and magazines.
In this cabinet you will find crochet yarn in the black organizers. I found them at our local Family Dollar store, 3 for $10.00. Above the yarn are some of my sewing books.

Thanks for looking.

Where I Sew

My sanctuary.......where I go to get away from it all. It has been a long journey but it is finally almost finished. All I lack is making valances for the windows. BTW they will be made using the strip fabric folded on my cutting table. This table folds up into the cabinet. I found the design for the cabinet in a Better Homes & Gardens magazine some 25+ years ago. I showed it to my father and he built it for me.

A Sewing Room Re-do

At the end of November I started tearing out my sewing room. The original area where I had my sewing room set up was very cramped even though the whole room is 14 x 25. I had the idea to move my sewing cabinets to the other side of the room and have more drawers/cabinets space built. It has been quite an undertaking to say the least. I did all the demolition of the cabinets. With the help of my father and husband the cabinets were moved to the other side of the room.
Below are a few pictures of the room before, during the demo and rebuilding. I will post more in the days and weeks to come.
Sewing room before
Other side of the room which was a sun room
Demo of the sewing room side
Another set of cabinets that were in the sun room side
Sewing room cabinet moved - paint on walls in sun room (now sewing room side)
Drawers being built along left side
Stay tuned for more to come

Snow and Sleet in the South

It is a cold and dreary day today in SE Arkansas. Sleet started shortly after 9:00 this morning and has continued steady since. We got some really large snowflakes but nothing like this from Thanksgiving 1980. We can only hope. :-)

Instead this is what we have, this picture was taken earlier this morning. We do have more now but no where near the picture from 1980. We mostly have ice...................at least we have electricity and butane and can stay warm.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Did you see any of this last night or go out to celebrate? I heard the fireworks in the wee hours of the morning while trying to go back to sleep. Dear son called to wish us a Happy New Year. He forgot that we are old......

So, what are your plans, goals or resolutions for 2011? I rarely make any resolutions or goals. This year I think I'll try a goal that I might can accomplish. My goal is to sew more on this...............

And to finish at least one project (UFO) per month. I also plan to blog more as a way to keep up with my sewing accomplishments. First I need to take down the tree and undecorate today..............I'd love to keep it up all year long if I could.

Happy New Year!! Have you had your black-eyed peas yet? We will have ours tonight at my parents house.
